Tally Ho Inn

We were lucky to find this little place after having a hard time finding accommodation. Our family of four stayed here and had a great experience, with helpful service, good amenities, and parking. The fit-out isn't new, but everything was clean and comfortable, and I'd happily recommend it. Both people at reception were friendly and helpful, a young woman named Nicole and an older gentleman. Thank you!

I was very happy with my room. It may have been the smallest one, but it was still plenty roomy for one or two people, with two chairs, a desk and chair, a large TV, a small fridge, and a really nice bathroom. My only complaint was not having a microwave, even a small one would've been handy. This is a 12-room boutique inn, and the rooms are arranged in an irregular layout around a central patio with a fireplace that stays lit. That gave me more privacy than a standard hotel where doors face each other. Some of the larger rooms have private balconies. It's half a block from Ocean Ave, so restaurants and shops downtown are an easy walk. I left my car in the private garage when I arrived and didn't use it again until checkout. The beach access is three blocks away, with the beach itself perhaps five or six blocks away. The south entrance to Pebble Beach is a little over half a mile away, also walkable if you're going to an event there. They have coffee in the morning and brandy in the evening, though I didn't try either. Bottled water is available if you ask. There was also a $10 breakfast voucher for Il Fornio across the street, but its weekday opening time of 7:30 and weekend opening time of 9 didn't work for me, so I went to Carmel Bakery, about three blocks away.

Our anniversary stay fell short, and we won't be back. The view was nice, the bed was soft, the heated tile floors felt good, and room service was good. At first the room looked impressive, but there was dusty decor and quite a few problems. The hot tub wasn't working and needed maintenance, so we lost one night of use. Jesse from service came the next day and was the best person we dealt with. The curtains were jammed, parts of the fireplace had fallen off, and we mentioned the hot tub issue. We also fixed the vanity mirror ourselves. Sunlight poured through the ceiling windows with no way to cover them, and there were no instructions for the unfamiliar fireplace or hot tub. The fridge was tucked inside a cabinet that seemed sealed shut, so we thought it was fake. We'd booked a hot tub and ocean view room, but arrived two hours after check-in to find a sign telling us to complete the process at a sister hotel across the street. The booking site advertised complimentary breakfast. After going back and forth with staff and the booking site, we finally got $10 vouchers for an off-site restaurant, which meant several trips to the sister hotel. They need to sort this out with the booking site. The only thing available in the Tally Ho lobby was coffee.

The location is handy, just two blocks from the city center, and the view was amazing. The rooms are huge and the bathrooms have been remodeled, though the decor feels old-fashioned. There was a microwave in the lobby, plus free fruit, coffee, and snacks. Breakfast was included at a restaurant across the street. It was filling, but not quite what I expected. I'd suggest updating the decor and improving breakfast. With those changes, my rating would've been perfect.
