Hampton Inn & Suites Carson City

The staff are incredibly friendly, and seem just as frustrated with the hotel’s problems as guests are. My room’s heating was a mess: it wouldn’t turn on unless I set the thermostat to 74, which made it too hot. At a more reasonable 68, it was too cold and cold air came through the vents. This Hampton Inn is a franchise, not what they call a full-service Hampton, so it doesn’t offer the usual amenities and brand perks. When I check into a Hilton, I expect to be greeted as a diamond member and get my snacks and other benefits, plus decent coffee. That doesn’t happen here. The manager won’t put out the dark roast, even though it’s in the pantry, and won’t let staff put out hot cocoa if there are kids around. It makes no sense. I can’t wait until the Home2 suites opens.

The staff were friendly and accommodating, which I appreciated, but thin walls let noise from neighboring rooms through and made it hard to relax. Breakfast was mediocre, with limited choices and disappointing quality for a Hampton. They need to improve the breakfast and soundproofing if they want guests to keep coming back.

The breakfast selection had good variety, which was a nice feature, and the service was friendly. The rooms were clean, but the property is older and starting to show it. The bed I slept in had the usual dip from years of use, and it took some effort to roll “uphill” and get out. For the current $225+ price or 50k Honors points, I don’t think it’s good value.

Service was great, and when our fridge wasn’t cold, they brought us another one. There’s lots of parking, with Taco Bell next door, and the free breakfast was pretty good. Great place.
