Super 8 by Wyndham Carson City/Lake Tahoe

I paid $88 total per night and thought it was good value for the price. Parking seemed just adequate, but the staff were good. The room was a good size, although there wasn’t much bench space. The bed and pillows were very good, the bathroom was small, and the towels were good. The shower had a nice spray and strong pressure. The TV had a decent channel selection and an easy-to-use guide, and the AC worked well. I stayed two nights in August. Breakfast was good by my standards, which are as simple as cereal or toast, though the breakfast room is small. Overall, a very good hotel, about 7.3/10, and I’d stay again.

The bright lot had ample parking, and the central Carson City location put Costco, Walmart, and plenty of restaurants nearby. Super 8 has never let me down: the beds and toilets were very clean, the price was great, and the ski area or lake views were less than an hour away. I’ll come back for my next ski trip. I expected a motel, but all the room doors and stairs are inside the building. That made me feel safer, though carrying luggage was tiring. The hair dryer in my room didn’t work. The property doesn’t allow bathing, and there was no tub stopper, so showering is the only option. I skipped breakfast since Starbucks and McDonald’s are nearby, so I can’t comment on it.

We stayed six nights, and the staff were very friendly and helpful whenever we needed something. The hotel was safe, clean, smelled nice, and stayed wonderfully quiet. One of the best budget-friendly places we’ve stayed at, and I’d come back.

The price is right, and it worked fine as our base for skiing Tahoe. The room and hallways smelled like smoke despite the non-smoking room, and a bright outdoor light right outside our window made it feel like daylight all night. Still, it was decent. When you book the cheapest motel in town, you have some idea what to expect.
