Extended Stay America Suites - Los Angeles - Carson

We booked two nights but started searching for another hotel as soon as we checked in, and canceled the second night. The staff were nice, but the room and hotel weren't what I'd expected. The cigarette smoke smell was so bad that it got into all our belongings. The old carpet looked dirty, the side board was detached with garbage stuck in it, and there were roaches. There was no shampoo or kitchen utensils and dishes, so we had to ask for them. At $200 per room per night, this was far too expensive for this kind of hotel. We were lucky to find somewhere better. I wish I'd read the reviews before booking. The photos don't show what the rooms really look like and should be updated. I based my decision to book on the photos shown here.

I asked for an extra blanket, but the receptionist gave me a string of different explanations: first it was in the dryer, then she had none because she was doing laundry, then the dryer was broken. She said she finished work at 11:30 PM and told me to come back then. I never got a blanket. I was staying Tuesday through Saturday. When I returned around midnight on Saturday morning, my key didn't work because I'd been checked out. At check-in, I'd apparently been charged only through Friday, not Saturday. It still took over an hour for the receptionist to sort it out, and I was charged for another day. While I waited, I repeatedly asked whether my belongings were still in the room, including all my medications, narcotics and anti-anxiety pills, and my HP laptop. She wouldn't answer. I was extremely stressed for over an hour, and after getting back to the room I saw that some pills were missing from the bottle. The hallways smelled of marijuana, which I don't smoke, and there were roaches in my room. I kept everything zipped inside my suitcase so I wouldn't bring any roaches home to Baltimore Maryland.

Sylvia saved our vacation. Before her shift ended, she went out of her way to move us into a fresh-smelling room and made sure we were comfortable. Her customer service was amazing, and the only reason I'm giving five stars is the help she gave us. We paid almost $400 for four nights at Extended Stay, and her care made the stay feel worth it. The original room smelled like a fry kitchen so badly that our clothes and belongings picked up the fried food smell. It also had no hair dryer or shampoo. The front desk gave us shampoo when we asked, but there weren't any hair dryers available. Thank you, Sylvia. You deserve a raise and promotion.

Ms. Sylvia on the night staff has always helped my children and me feel comfortable and safe. She clearly cares about her work and everyone staying here. Thank you, extended stay CARSON AND TORRANCE, for giving my children and me a beautiful place we can call home. We love the home experience. It's such a great idea.
