The artwork and the people there ended up being a highlight of my trip. I spotted a piece I wanted for my place out west, though I never got the artist's name. I just told her hello and said she should keep making art, because her work was beautiful. My last-minute booking came after car trouble during my travels, and the short stay turned out great. The price was very affordable, the amenities were superb, and the room was spotless, spacious, and more comfortable than I expected. Five stars, plus one for the art and the lovely people.

The staff were great with customer service, and the refrigerator kept my things cold. The rest of the stay was awful. My shower backed up before I could finish, the key cards kept failing so I had to return to the front office, and the microwave didn't work. The rooms and drapes are very outdated, and the photos don't show what the place is really like. I was moved to another room, but it was filthy too. There was mold in the bottom of the ice bucket, and I was so disgusted I checked out before my scheduled date. I've traveled to Atlanta many times without a bad room experience like this. I would never stay at Quality Inn on Dixie Ave again. The hotel needs serious work, and I hope the health department looks into the problems.

The staff at check-in were friendly, and the lobby looked decent. But when we drove around to the back, it was clear this wasn't going to be a Hilton experience. Housekeeping was using an old shopping cart instead of a proper cleaning cart. Our room smelled old and dusty. The beds looked fresh and clean, and we always check for bedbugs wherever we stay, but the bathroom needed updating. The toilet wouldn't flush, and the bathroom door hung so far off its hinges it wouldn't close. We stayed the first night, then both started itching as soon as we got into our separate beds. We kept scratching after showers and through the night. I had Zyrtec with me, which helped. We told the office we wouldn't stay the second night, but they wouldn't refund it because we hadn't given 24 hours' notice. We slept in the car rather than spend another night in the room. Now I have to take Monday off to see a doctor and find out whether it was dust mites or something more serious, like scabies.

The stairs along the walkway to the rooms weren't usable, so carrying our things in and out meant walking around. The washer also took over an hour for one load, and after paying for it I had to wait hours for another customer to finish. The stay was a total disaster and no vacation at all. On day two, housekeeping didn't bring fresh linens, remove the trash, or leave bags or toilet paper. The bathroom was already nasty when we arrived, and the coffee maker was full of mold and muddy-looking stuff. I told Amanda, the head site manager, and said we could have been poisoned. She yelled in the lobby, in front of customers and staff, that my child and I had 30 minutes to leave, then told a coworker to call the police. I was there because we had no trash bags. When I mentioned that I had photos, her tone changed. She apologized and came to clean the room herself, saying we could stay, but never apologized for how she'd treated us. She also promised a refund, then later accused me of lying to another employee about the linens. Two young women finally came to our door with linens, but only after all this happened. Amanda had threatened to put us out because I kept reporting problems, and told me not to come back. I have photos. I've never had management treat me so cruelly while traveling. My call to the corporate office got nowhere. There will be trouble at this site if Amanda stays in charge. At checkout, she said I had lied about the linens, even though the workers only arrived later. I won't set foot in this so-called establishment again.

I tried staying here again on 8/18 after car trouble down the street, since it was the closest and most convenient place and I didn't have another option. This time I had a newly issued GA ID, and the night attendant Levi was much more helpful. He didn't seem to remember what happened in May. Back then, after traveling from Colorado to Georgia, I needed a room and Levi, who works 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., refused to take my federally issued, valid passport as ID. I told him a federal passport is valid wherever I travel and can be used to book a room, but he kept refusing and got a very bad attitude. He then threatened to call the police if I didn't leave, so I left. I wasn't interested in dealing with law enforcement after that trip. I went up the street to a hotel at Lake Point in Emerson, where the folks at the Hilton booked me using my passport. I grew up eating at the Quality Inn with my family on Sundays, and everyone used to be kind. That last experience definitely didn't bring back those good memories.
