Quality Inn & Suites Raleigh Durham Airport

The room was clean, though dated, with old, worn equipment that was noisy when I tried to sleep. The linens, including sheets and towels, were old and stained. In the bathroom, the toilet and seat were loose, the water was only warm at best, and the tub drained poorly. The lighting was harsh white LEDs, and warmer bulbs would’ve been better. The shuttle from the airport was a wild ride in a beat-up van. Two stars. It beats sleeping at the airport, but that’s about all.

The bed was comfortable, and the quick breakfast was useful: one waffle machine, cereal, yogurt, and a microwave sausage patty on a biscuit. A second waffle machine would help, and I’d have liked more sandwich choices. I’m in the area for business and usually stay at the La Quinta next door, but tried this place once. It’s not terrible, just not great, and I’ll probably go back across the street. The room shown when I booked had a big TV, but mine had an old 32-inch set with no streaming or casting. Bring an HDMI cable if you want to connect a laptop or phone. The deadbolt didn’t work, and the door didn’t line up properly, which concerned me a little. Some pillows smelled of cologne, the toilet paper rolls were used and nearly empty, and the tub filled up while I showered. There was wifi, but it was unsecured, so anyone in the parking lot could use it. It’ll do in a pinch, though it’s 2025 and even $50 motels have streaming TVs.

The room itself was clean and comfortable, but the rest of the stay fell short. The lobby had a strong curry smell that hit me as soon as I walked in. I have nothing against Indian food, but that wasn’t what I expected or wanted in a hotel, especially for an extended stay. The elevator kept going out of service intermittently during my 10 days there. As a frequent business traveler, I found that level of inconvenience unacceptable and recommend staying elsewhere.

The first room had four German roaches in the bathroom within five minutes of check-in. I told the front desk, and although he seemed unconcerned, he moved us to a room farther down the hall. The thermostat has a limit on how low you can set it. We like a cold room for sleeping, so we ended up sleeping on top of the covers.
