Hampton Inn & Suites Bastrop

I definitely recommend staying here. The staff were so accommodating, and the hotel seemed very well managed. I had some large cases to ship and couldn't find a drop-off spot, so they agreed to hold them after I'd already left until FedEx could collect them. FedEx missed the first pickup, too, and the staff still kept the cases there. I really appreciated that.

The room was clean, with a hot shower and good water pressure, and everything we needed was within five minutes. The pool and gym were closed for renovations, but the rest of the hotel looked clean and updated. Staff were very nice, and check-in and check-out were easy. Breakfast was good, and hot coffee and water were available in the lobby around the clock.

We drove a long way and didn't get in until 10 p.m., so we stayed despite the sewage smell in the room. We had booked two nights hoping to sleep in, but around 7 a.m. we were woken by banging, drilling, and hammering from construction above us. No one had mentioned the work at check-in. I went to the front desk to complain about the odor and noise, but midway through, the fire alarm sounded throughout the hotel and wouldn't stop until the fire department arrived. Back in our room, we found that its fire alarm didn't work at all. We'd been there for only about nine hours, so I asked for a refund. Heather, the assistant manager, refunded the second night but said she couldn't refund the first and would need to speak with her manager. I've been trying all morning to reach the head manager, but haven't had an answer or a callback. The open sewer drains were venting into our room, and I believe unlicensed handymen were plumbing them. The sewer gas gave me a headache, and between that, the broken alarm, and the construction, the stay was miserable. I don't recommend this place. Motel 6 would be a better stay. If we don't get a refund, they'll be hearing from our attorney.

Norma really came through for us before we even arrived. We were booked for the weekend of January 25, but the ice storm affecting much of the state meant we needed to postpone. I'd chosen the semi-flexible option and the modification deadline had passed when the forecast got bad. The front desk couldn't change the reservation, so Norma suggested calling Hilton customer service. They were no help and basically said, "too bad." Not long after that call, Norma got back to me with a solution. She spoke with her GM, and they found a way around the booking terms and moved us to the following weekend. Once we arrived, this quickly became one of our favorite hotels. Renovations were underway, but they didn't disrupt our stay. The hotel was very quiet, and the whole staff was incredibly friendly. We had our dog with us, and at check-in they gave us an envelope with a letter listing 24-hour vet numbers, nearby boarding and grooming places, and pet-friendly attractions. I'd never received that kind of useful information during a stay before. Kudos to the GM. Everyone gave our pup lots of attention and affection. Breakfast was good, and the staff kept everything well stocked. Just a great experience all around. If you're staying in the Bastrop area, I highly recommend this Hampton Inn.
