The only reason I’m giving this a 4 instead of a 5 is the heating problem. Apart from that, the hotel stay was excellent, and I hope they can sort out the heat during extreme cold. Our first suite was spacious, with a separate bedroom and living room and a large bathroom. The guest service representative got check-in right, welcomed me as a Hilton Honors member, explained parking, the gym, pool, housekeeping, and breakfast, and pointed us toward the elevator. But the room was only 68 degrees while it was about -10 outside. I turned the thermostat up to around 80 and went to sleep. By morning it read 63. The front desk said the whole 6th floor showed similar temperatures on her panel. She offered another suite or a space heater. After thinking it over at breakfast, I chose to move. The GM was a really nice guy. I told him I didn’t think the fans were running, and he explained they were running quietly, but it was also around -10 outside. The only available suite was ADA, which hadn’t been mentioned when the move was offered. They kindly moved us back to the 6th floor, where we took the space heater. It helped, but only so much, and the room only heated to about 65 for the rest of the trip. On our last breakfast morning, we heard another family with separate rooms discussing the temperature. One person said their heat was fine, while another seemed to have the same trouble we did.

We were happy with our New Year’s Eve stay. The room was clean and comfortable, and the woman at the front desk was delightful. We didn’t try the pool or have breakfast. The location worked perfectly for our plans, with dinner and drinks at a few places on Main street. If you’re spending time in the area, this would be a good choice.

We’ve stayed here twice, and we’ll pick this hotel again when we come back to Cedar Falls. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the bed was especially comfortable. Kim at the front desk is fantastic, professional but down to earth. She even lent us her lint roller when our kitty had napped on my husband’s wool coat as we were getting dressed up for New Year’s.

The location is great and easy to get around on foot, but the rooms were disappointing. On a very cold winter day, our first room wouldn’t get above 63 degrees because the heat was broken. Other parts of the hotel felt cold too, including the lobby and pool area. Staff first suggested we use more blankets instead of letting us move, which I found reprehensible. The fixtures weren’t terribly dirty, but the walls had smears and dirt, a big piece of drywall was missing, and the caulking was discolored. It all seemed like a lack of care and maintenance. The pillows were awful, too.

An updated Hampton Inn in the best location around, right by the river and within walking distance of some of the best places to eat and drink. When I asked Kim where to eat, she was more than happy to recommend somewhere. Friendly, helpful service and a great base for exploring the area.
