Super 8 by Wyndham Cedar Falls IA - University

We’ve stayed here for the state trap shooting competition for the past three years, choosing it for the staff, clean rooms, and pool. This visit was a terrible experience, and we probably won’t return. We booked two rooms so we could relax and swim, but the pool wasn’t working when we arrived, despite being advertised online and confirmed when I called. The front desk first said it needed chemicals and would be ready soon. A few hours later they said it wouldn’t be open during our stay, and several other guests told us it hadn’t worked for weeks. I’d also asked for the rooms to be near each other on the same floor, but they put us at opposite ends of different floors. Staff didn’t help or try to fix that. I’ve contacted the GM and haven’t heard back yet. Since it was the weekend, I’m giving them a little time, but this was a ridiculous waste of money.

For a good price, I was pleasantly surprised by how nice this Super 8 was. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, the rooms were quiet and clean, and breakfast was a full hot one.

The room smelled like cat pee, and we were charged more than the rate we booked. We also didn’t get what we requested: two queen beds and a couch, but the couch was missing. Staff were rude. When I complained, they reluctantly offered 10% off, then charged the full amount anyway. Another guest came back during check-in and said they’d been given an already occupied room. I absolutely wouldn’t recommend this place. I’d give it zero stars if I could.

Breakfast was good, and the highways made it quick to get where we needed to go, even though I wish the hotel were closer to town. Our room didn’t have much counter space or a USB port, and it smelled a bit unclean. The window looked onto a brick retaining wall. You get what you pay for. We were going to a funeral and hit every red light on the road in front of the uni-dome. Next time we’ll avoid that route.
