Go before the secret gets out. This place feels like a jewel, with a history that includes everyone from dignitaries and popes to inexorable paupers and other luminaries. The grounds have a Hampton-esque feel, and recent revivals have added whimsy and surprises at every turn. There’s some tongue-in-cheek Botticelli, a femme fatale mystique, romance, and ribald surprises. Escape here, and you’ll be back.
