Woodspring Suites Ceres - Modesto

Nine days after I checked out, they charged my card 250. That overdrew my account and left me penniless. They claimed I smoked in the room, but I'm on oxygen, so I don't know how that could be possible. I'll never have a good word to say about them.

For a first stay, this was five stars. The property is clean, the staff were pleasant and helpful, and the room was great. It's extremely close to the freeway, so you can hear it, but there are loads of food options, gas, and shops nearby. The hotel had only opened in May, and it's Jan26, so it's still very new. My boyfriend and I stayed one quick night in a roomy king suite with a full bathtub, a large mirror vanity, and a nice big sink. There's also an extra couch that I believe pulls out, a microwave, a two-burner induction stovetop, and a full fridge. No cookware, though. There's a Walmart across the way if you need anything. I thought the on-site gym was cool. I didn't check for a pool or anything since it was January.

The smell in the room was overwhelming. By 1 a.m., after going to bed at 10, I had a terrible migraine, felt nauseous, and my throat hurt. I'm not usually sensitive to smells, but this was too much, so I took the blankets and pillows and slept in my Yukon. Luckily, I backpack a lot and had my sleep pad in there. When I arrived, I turned off the fan system, thinking the air filters might be scented, but that didn't help. I opened the window, which only opens three inches, even though it was 40 degrees outside. It smelled like four scented plug-ins in there. I told the front desk the next morning and canceled my second night. With the window open, I could also hear Tractor Supply next door playing Christmas music, even through earplugs. For anyone sensitive to light, there are blinds but no curtains, so it's bright by morning. The bathroom lights are motion-activated, and all those bright lights come on. The room itself is spacious, with a comfy bed, a large fridge, electric cooktop, and laundry basket, with a laundry room on the first floor. But there were no pots, pans, utensils, dishes, or silverware. The front desk was very nice. The location is well lit, with a good assortment of food nearby within walking distance, including Starbucks.

The room and hotel were very clean, and the staff were lovely and helpful. I'd been worried after reading the reviews, but they assured me everything was fine, and it was. I loved having a full fridge and all that space. The bed wasn't as uncomfortable as I expected and I got a good night's rest. The AC was impressive too. If you like a good AC, it reaches your set temperature within a few minutes. 10/10, I'll definitely come back.
