Chama River Bend Lodge

Room 106 was large, with two beds and plenty of space, plus a microwave, fridge, and coffee maker. There was lots of hot water, and the beds were comfortable enough that we slept fine. In September, I’d forgotten pajamas, so we ran the little oil-filled electric radiator. It’s rustic in a good way. The price seemed high, though I suspect it’s in line with the other choices in Chama.

We got a really good deal here while driving through Chama, New Mexico. They were out of two-bed rooms, but had a three-bedroom house next door instead. It seemed original and was in good shape, with beautiful wooden furniture. The place was very clean, and we enjoyed sitting on the benches outside with our coffee in the morning. We'd definitely stay again.

Everyone was friendly and helpful. Our room was very spacious and clean, with a big king bed. The hot tub was just the right temperature and very, very clean too.

The fee situation left us feeling misled, and we won't stay here again or recommend it. Our hotels.com booking showed a price and said to pay at the property. A few days before arrival, the Lodge offered a way to avoid fees by paying cash. We called twice and emailed for clarification but got no reply. Then, the day before we arrived, they charged our credit card more than the hotels.com price, passing those fees on to us. A friend traveling with us, who had booked a room too, got the same treatment and is also unlikely to return or recommend the place. The location was fine, and the site was nice, with amenities for people with kids. Our King room was decent, with room for a table and chairs, a fridge, and a microwave. There was coffee in the room but no tea. The TV wouldn't connect to the dish service, and its on-screen directions didn't match any button on the remote. Furniture surfaces needed wiping down. We could live with those issues for one night while taking the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railway, which we highly recommend.
