Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Chambersburg, PA

I enjoyed my stay, and the front desk employees were nice. Most things were pretty clean, though there were a few crumbs or something on top of the bed. The hot tub was out of service, but I hadn't planned to use it.

My wife and I came here hoping for a romantic evening in November. We found multiple bugs in the bed, with two shown in the attached photo. We brought them to the front desk to show the host, then left without spending the night. When we asked for a refund for the night we didn't stay, they accused us of lying, said there were no bugs, and refused to return our money, even though we'd brought them down to show the host. I've had another bad experience with a Country Inn & Suites before. I won't stay at a Country Inn or any other Radisson-owned property again.

The bed was comfortable, and the room, shower, and pool all looked clean. The room and pool were plenty warm too. But the place felt like it was cutting corners: there was no laundry bag, not enough towels in the room, and just one tiny hand-washing soap. There was no body wash or bar soap for the shower, and no towels at the pool. Breakfast had no hot protein like eggs or bacon. Adequate, I guess.

The pool only reopened on the last day of our trip, which was nice, but it had been closed for 80% of the stay. It was the main reason we booked the Country Inn in Chambersburg. There was no mention of the closure during booking, and we might have canceled and gone elsewhere if we'd known. On check-in, a sign said the pool was closed, and the employee thought it probably would stay that way for our whole visit. I'd stayed here before and it was such a good experience that coming back seemed obvious. This time was awful, mainly because of management and the poor maintenance around the hotel. At 11 AM the next morning, while we were driving to Gettysburg, the manager called to say a vague “plumbing issue” meant we had to change rooms. We'd already spent the night, nearly 24 hours since check-in, in a room that supposedly should have been off limits for maintenance. At least it wasn't something major like bedbugs or another infestation, but it was absurd that no one caught the issue before we slept there. The replacement room was clearly worse: no deadbolt latch above the door, cracked bathroom tile, and mold in the shower corner. The heater and AC sounded like a dying motor all night. The bed was stiffer and didn't have the mattress topper the first room had. No compensation or room upgrade was offered. When I tried to explain my frustration, the general manager said, “I don't know what you'd like me to do.” Then at 3:30 AM on our last night, a call came to the room. I tried to answer, but a loose cable in the phone handset disconnected it, so I couldn't see or talk to whoever called. We figured it was spam or a prank and went back to bed. At checkout we learned the front desk had called because a sensor in the fire alarm system had tripped and they thought there was smoke in the room. Nobody followed up or knocked to see if we were okay, even though the call never connected. We didn't hear what it was about until checkout. I can't believe something that serious was brushed off. The whole trip was horrible. The manager was disrespectful and had no customer service skills when I tried to voice complaints. We won't be back, and I'd strongly advise others against staying here.
