Downtown Richmond Retreat Near Financial District

There were social events during my stay, including live music from a local artist, wine in the parlor, and an Earth Day celebration. The staff also knew the city well and could share maps and tips for exploring Richmond. My bed was very comfortable, and the room stayed nice and cool, with big windows letting in sunlight. They also offer free laundry and a simple continental breakfast each morning. Everyone I met was kind and friendly.

I liked how the place managed to feel social while still giving me privacy. The atmosphere was cool, and the make-your-own breakfast was great. The rooms and bathrooms were spotless, too. I even wanted to stay in and hang out at the hostel instead of going around the city. I’ll look for HI hostels on future trips.

I live in Richmond, so I haven’t stayed here, but I went to their cooking as a second language class, which is open to the community, and had a great time. We made Indonesian food, and it was all delicious. They also showed us around, including a nice accessible family room that seemed especially good for the price. The common area is pretty cool, too. They offer guests a lot of programming. If I were a young traveler passing through, I’d see this as a good place to stay and meet people, as well as find cool places and things to do.

I found the local staff to be wonderful and full of knowledge about the area and beyond. I had a great conversation one evening with Josh, who knows a lot about history and loves travel. Downstairs, there’s a big projector screen for watching TV with other guests. The hostel is clean and well maintained, and I enjoyed staying a couple of nights. The dorm price isn’t especially cheap when you’re sharing with 3-5 other people, but compared with the competition, I think it’s worth it. There’s a full kitchen with the cookware you need to make a gourmet meal or save money. Kroger's grocery store is just a few minutes away, and I made myself a great omelette. They provide everything for your stay. You just need to put your sheets and covers in the washer room bin when you leave. The place gave my trip a much-needed boost and made me want to explore and travel more. I highly recommend it!
