Ludlow's Island Resort

The best part of our weekend at Ludlow's Island Resort was the people working there. Every employee we met was helpful, understanding, and clearly wanted us to have a good stay. Dustyn and Mick deserve a shout-out for helping us split enough firewood to keep us going all night. The island is quiet and peaceful, the cabins have a lovely north woods look, and there are lots of amenities. We couldn't have asked for a nicer weekend.

Our first visit to Ludlow’s was even better than we imagined. The girls loved the cane fishing poles for catching fish right off the dock, as well as the daily kids' activities. The staff were unlike any we've met elsewhere, going out of their way to make sure guests have what they need. The cabin was fully stocked, so our vacation in that beautiful setting was stress-free. We're already looking forward to coming back.

The staff launch was probably the best part. They took care of pulling our boat in and out of the lake, so we didn't have to do it ourselves. The kids also loved the island beach and water activities. We were glad to find out there's a way to charge a non-Tesla electric car, if we decide to attempt the trip from Chicago. My wife's family has been visiting Lake Vermilion for over 30 years, usually staying across the lake. That spot was full, and it had been more than 30 years since anyone had stayed at Ludwig’s, so we booked a south shore cabin. It turned out wonderful. The lake was extremely high and the mosquitoes were relentless, but the staff were very helpful, especially when they got power to our dock while it was submerged. I can't say enough about how well kept our cabin was.

We've been coming back to Ludlow’s since 1987, enjoying the lake in spring, summer, and fall, and it's never let us down. We've seen all kinds of conditions, from water covering the docks and big steps needed to board from a boat, to 100-degree heat and wind-driven snow. Our visits have included weeks with parents, kids, and now grandkids. We won't make it up this year, but we're already looking forward to next season. Give it a try, you'll like it!
