Sleep Inn Richmond North

The front desk gentleman was lovely with my dog, giving him treats both when we arrived and when we checked out. The hotel was pretty clean for the area, and parking was easy. Its location was accessible too. I didn't sleep well, though. We were right by the laundry room, and at 2 in the morning other guests were talking loudly outside our door. Sound carried everywhere. I'm noise sensitive, so if I had the choice I probably wouldn't stay again. Still, everything else was great, and I know staff can't control other guests. I didn't speak up, so maybe they could have helped. Without the echoing walls and hallways, or if I weren't a light sleeper, this would have been a five-star stay and I'd come back. My dog and I were in Richmond for a work gig this past weekend. I'm low maintenance and not picky about hotels, but I think reviews matter.

The sheets were clean, and maybe this place has value if all you need is a bed, but I wouldn't choose it again. There's no gym or pool, and breakfast was just one waffle maker for the whole hotel plus some frozen options. We passed. The floors looked clean but were so sticky I felt like Spider-Man. Road noise might lull you to sleep, but the Popeyes lights are blinding. The stairwell was even hotter than the room and had a unique smell. The AC took several minutes of sputtering before it came on. It blew air but not cold, and only cooled the room by morning. Inside it was humid and 76, even though it was about 50 outside. The shower looked like it came from a 1976 RV, with beige fiberglass and moldy caulk. The avocado-green paint fit the dated former-red-roof-inn look. The showerhead was set at 5’8”, too low for me; the water was warm rather than hot, and the floor was oddly slick. This place sorta sucks.

We didn't feel safe staying here, so we had to leave. I booked through Booking.com and was traveling with my child. Our first room had visible mold and seemed unsafe; the second had visible mold too, so this wasn't just one bad room. There also wasn't a proper safety lock on the room door. Booking.com tried to contact the property about a refund under its safety policy, but the hotel wouldn't respond. When I called to speak to a manager, I was repeatedly told none was available, and they hung up while I was talking. I was left responsible for the cost of a stay that was uninhabitable and unsafe. I have photos and records of the mold, lock, and communications. I'm posting this to warn other guests and urge proper oversight before someone gets seriously sick or hurt.

I travel for hotels often and needed to be in Richmond, VA. This place is conveniently just outside downtown, with lots of restaurants around it. The rooms were a good size and very clean, and the bed was comfortable. I slept well. Breakfast was simple and included cereal, fruit, pastries, breakfast burritos to heat up, waffles, oatmeal, yogurt, juice, and coffee. I took photos and would gladly stay here again.
