Courtyard Champaign

Tina made our visit better with how friendly and accommodating she was. We had a nice room at a nice hotel, and the little bar and café were great. Thank you, Tina! 😊

This place made the low-end reputation of Courtyard in the Marriott portfolio feel about right. When I arrived in October 2025, I opened my assigned room with the key card and found people already inside. I apologized awkwardly and quickly, then went back to the desk to explain. The employee didn’t seem very sorry. She said she’d only just started her shift and suggested the computer system had caused the mix-up, which I doubt. My next room had a door that wouldn’t latch properly, and its bolt wouldn’t catch at all. A third room was fine, until the key cards quit working on the outside door and then failed again at the room door. On the positive side, the hotel smelled nice and the rooms were clean.

The second room smelled awful too. The receptionist came upstairs with me, said it smelled of smoke when she opened the door, and sprayed air freshener by the beds and on other parts of the carpet. After she left, I checked the mattress seams and saw several black spots. I took my luggage downstairs after about an hour and said I couldn’t stay. She told me I wouldn’t be charged, so I found another hotel around 9:30 pm. I was charged anyway. The hotel has refused a refund and won’t even discuss what happened. My husband posted a bad review about it on their site, and they removed it. The first room had smelled like cigarettes too, which is why I’d asked to move. That second room was the only other one available. This is a terrible hotel, with bad smells and what looked to me like signs of bed bugs. Zero stars.

Suite 101 is lovely. Zoe was delightful, and Tabatha is my absolute favorite, she’s just fire! If those two are working, I can’t imagine not having an amazing stay. I highly recommend the hotel. Be sure to smile and smell nice!!!
