Heartland Country Resort & Lodge

We were in Marengo for a wedding and couldn't have been happier with Heartland. Such a sweet little place in the middle of nowhere, clean and quiet, just right for us. The animals were a treat, and getting to pet a camel isn't something you do every day. Humphrey was adorable. Thanks for a relaxing stay, we'd highly recommend it!

I was sad when it was time to leave. This place is a real hidden gem, with lovely owners and animals I absolutely enjoyed. I'd recommend it for a quality, quiet getaway, and I'll definitely go back.

We happened across Heartland County Resort while planning a day trip to the Groovy Plant Ranch, and I easily arranged with Laurie to stop by with my 8 year old daughter. Jim greeted us with the animals as soon as we arrived, and we felt like family right away. He had treats cut up and ready, took us around to meet all the animals, and shared information that was right for my daughter's age while she petted and fed them. It was educational and fun for everyone, and she got to spend time up close with the animals at her own pace. It felt like a child's dream, and I think it will be a core memory for her. Jim and Laurie clearly care about what they do and enjoy the animals. A delightful afternoon, definitely a 10 out of 10 for us. We've already started thinking about coming back, this time to stay at one of the properties. Thank you so much!

The Harmony Suite was spacious, super clean, and had everything we needed. Jim and Laurie made sure we were comfortable, answered our questions, and chatted with us while we spent time with the animals. They're all friendly and have their own personalities, especially Boomer and Blue. Boomer would happily play fetch all day. A friendly cat even climbed into our laps and purred while we sat on the porch enjoying the fresh air. My boyfriend and I were in town in June for an annual event nearby. We found Heartland while looking for hotels and were drawn to the charming cabin suite, property, and animals. The stay was perfect, and I can't picture staying anywhere else when we return next year. I usually think of a hotel as somewhere to sleep, then head out in the morning. Here, I wanted to stay in the room or on the porch instead. It was a much more relaxing experience than I expected. Next time, I'd book a few extra days before or after the event to enjoy the property and animals more, and try the full country style breakfast. We feel lucky we found this hidden gem. I'd recommend Heartland to anyone with an event or business nearby, or to anyone looking for a relaxing break from everyday life. We're already excited to come back.
