Best Budget Inn

I stayed here for eight months, starting at the end of February. Rent was $1,300 a month, or $295 a week. There was no heat or AC, the windows had no screens and were broken, and mold was present in many rooms.

The staff made us feel welcome and safe, and they stayed professional even with a really unpleasant customer. The bed was comfortable, with clean, soft sheets. The place has had a needed facelift since our last visit. Breakfast at the bar was good, though I would’ve liked more fruit choices, especially pears.

You get one towel, one washcloth, and one roll of toilet paper for the stay. There’s no room service to clean up or make the bed, and guests are expected to keep things tidy or risk being kicked out. The property looks worn inside and out, and seems to be getting worse under the owners. Many guests appear to be low-income renters staying for weeks or months. At check-in, the desk is covered with rules that seem aimed at freeing the owners from legal responsibility. Some don’t seem possible, such as saying the hotel isn’t responsible for injuries on the property.

Our room had been remodeled and looked beautiful, but the cockroaches and bedbugs were impossible to overlook. I was bitten over and over by one or the other before we left. We told management on our departure day, and they blamed everyone but where the problem belonged. I really hope they fixed the infestation for the sake of future guests, though I doubt it. The owner was a very nice lady, which is the only reason I gave one star.
