Charleston Historic District/Hotel Bella Grace

It was a quiet, clean, relaxing stay, and I'd come back even though I was only there for one night. Dominique at the front desk was especially accommodating. I interacted with her several times, and when my morning got chaotic she helped with everything I needed so kindly. I'm loyal to Marriott, and it's not often I meet a front desk team member as great as Dominique.

We left after one night, even though we'd booked three. The hotel next door was newer, much nicer, and a bit cheaper, though it didn't have kitchens. I usually don't post reviews, but this stay was bad enough that I wanted to share it. For context, a family member had a double suite and was pleased with it. We booked a queen studio the day before traveling, at the last minute, and paid an extremely high price because there weren't many choices. The night attendant was helpful when we arrived late. The room itself was awful. The bed was literally broken, and I can't be sure, but I felt like fleas were biting us overnight. The pillows and blankets looked like they were from the 80s, and the bathroom had seen better days. This place needs serious renovations.

Free parking onsite was useful, and being close to downtown Charleston was nice. Check-in was efficient and professional. The clean rooms are in a two-story hotel with an elevator. Breakfast was understaffed for the number of guests on the day I was there. I'd definitely recommend having a car if you stay here. I wasn't there long enough to comment on the kitchen appliances or wares.

Breakfast was delicious, but the rest of my stay was awful. The property is old, not very nice, and not very clean, and my room had no heat. I froze the first night. It sits in an ugly, industrial, run-down part of Charleston, and I didn't feel very safe. Find another hotel in a different part of town.
