After a 13-hour drive with four kids in a van, we were moved from the room we’d booked because its HVAC wasn’t working and it was 64 degrees inside. I called the front desk, but the person there was short with me and didn’t listen when I explained I’d been an HVAC service tech and company owner for 30 years. The system seemed to have been down for a while, possibly because a breaker had tripped due to a fault. The replacement room was smaller, which was difficult with two adults and four kids. The next day I had to ask for towels, soap, and shampoo, and got a rude response that made it sound like I’d used up what was in the room. When we returned that evening, the bed hadn’t been made and the trash was still there. On the phone, I was told sharply that I had to request room cleaning at check-in. I’d never been told that in all my hotel stays, and after that drive I may not have heard it even if it was said. I expected at least a clean room and towels on the bed. There were also maintenance issues: torn window tint, a plastic bag over the fire alarm, broken tile, a loose toilet paper holder placed so close that I hit my elbow every time I sat down, and large stains on the hallway rugs. I wasn’t impressed with the maintenance or the stay. Never again.
We only stayed because, at 10 p.m., we had no other options. My friend and I went to the nearby Target for new pillows, Lysol to disinfect the beds and carpets, and Clorox spray for the bathroom. The room smelled of feet, dampness, and age, anything but clean. The hall carpet was dirty and the smell got worse as we approached the room. In the lobby, the floor was wet and muddy from kids coming in from the pool, and there was an old musty odor. The receptionist was nice, though. It was absolutely not worth $230. Hotel management should pay staff better and make cleanliness a priority. If all the rooms are like ours, the place should be shut down, no joke.
I won’t book here again after the way the woman at the front desk spoke to me. When I called, she said they don’t book with locals. I said that seemed like an odd policy and explained I only needed a room for the night. She cut me off and hung up. I called back, and she recognized my number, put me on hold right away, and left me there for 20 minutes until I gave up. So much for Southern hospitality.
The front desk associate couldn’t confirm whether we had a double room or a queen, even after I asked several times, both on the phone and in person. Otherwise, service was friendly and prompt. The rooms were clean, quiet, and a reasonable size, and the location was fairly central for what we needed.
We stay here three or four days almost every week for work, and the sleep is a big reason we keep returning. My spouse and I both say we sleep better here than anywhere, even at home. The mattress is incredibly comfortable, which matters since we both have back issues and I’m picky about beds. We often upgrade to a room with an in-room jacuzzi to help with our backs and overall aches after physical work. A couple were out of service last time, which was no big deal. I’m glad they keep up with maintenance. We’ve tried a lot of rooms and have never been disappointed. They’re always clean, smell fresh, and have fresh sheets. The pillows are a mixed bag: there are about five, three lumpy and kind of hard, and two very soft ones that I use. The hotel is smoke-free. Breakfast is very good, with fresh food every day, and the environment is clean. Bill is a great guy, professional, kind, friendly, and with a good sense of humor. The rest of the desk staff are good too. I can’t think of much else to say except don’t hesitate to stay here. It’s worth it.
