The property looked generally nice and updated, which is why I’m giving it two stars instead of one. But a reservation problem took over the stay, and the staff made no effort to fix it. I had booked and received confirmation for a double-queen room for three adults. When we arrived, they gave us a king room with a pullout sofa. The hotel admitted there was a reservation issue and said they’d told the travel portal or credit card travel service that double-queen rooms were unavailable. Nobody notified me before arrival. If I’d known, I never would have booked Hotel Bella Grace. Then the hotel blamed the portal, and the portal later blamed the hotel. I was stuck between them, with neither side taking responsibility or offering a real solution. The pullout bed meant for an adult was extremely thin and uncomfortable. The couch that served as the headrest and the mattress both had visible, gross stains. There was also grime buildup in the shower corners, so the room felt less clean than expected and not worth the price. The sliding glass barn door to the bathroom kept sticking, and someone had to open it from outside to get me out. Mistakes happen, but the lack of accountability and customer service was the most disappointing part. If anyone had owned the problem or made a real effort to put it right, my review might have been very different. As a Marriott Bonvoy member, I’m extremely disappointed and wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone.

I only stayed one night, and the room worked perfectly for a short visit. It was a clean, well located Marriot residence inn, one block from King Street shopping and dining and Market Street. The room was efficient and functional, with plenty of storage, hangers, and a desk/vanity area. It was spacious, had a full kitchen with appliances, and a nice big shower. Short stays are welcome too, of course. Don’t forget to get your points. Hope to come back soon!

We stayed one night and were really disappointed with the room. It was tiny, like a “bird cage,” but we were charged extra because it was the “holiday season.” When we asked to change rooms, they said no and explained they were overbooked. We booked through Expedia, whose picture showed a much nicer, spacious room. Expedia said the hotel had supplied the pictures, so don’t be fooled by what you see. It seems to me Expedia has a deal with mediocre hotels to rate them too highly and draw in unsuspecting people like us. There was no lobby, and the elevator was dirty. I’d never come back.

Great location, but there’s really nowhere to work unless you stay in your room. There’s no lobby, and the one meeting room by the front desk is usually booked. I saw several offsite vendors giving presentations there. The hotel is a cute little boutique place, but has no services or amenities. There’s no way to order food, so be ready to use DoorDash or Uber eats for meals. There is a small snack bar by the front desk.

The rooms were clean, spacious, and well appointed, and the hotel is a nice boutique option close to King Street’s little shops and restaurants. There’s no restaurant in the hotel, but Delaney Oyster House is literally a 30 second walk next door. Charleston is very walkable, and this makes a great starting point for exploring the city. I highly recommend the Hotel Bella Grace in Charleston.
