Hyatt House Charleston/Historic District

I stayed on the newly renovated Hyatt House side and liked how functional the room design was, with separate private areas. The luggage dresser gave me a proper place to unpack and tuck my suitcase away. The shower pressure and temperature were great, and the AC worked well without switching off overnight on a motion sensor. The gym is modest and some equipment is older, but there’s a Peloton and a decent range of machines. I skipped breakfast, so I can’t comment on it. Parking is the frustrating part: hotel guests don’t get a discount at the connected city garage, and getting in and out can be stressful, especially in a larger vehicle. The space is tight. I arrived right at check-in and the area out front was packed, leaving only inches to squeeze by other cars. It may help to check in a little earlier or later. That’s probably part of staying in a historic city, and this will still be my go-to hotel for future visits.

We were here for a conference, and the spacious rooms were well cared for. The attentive staff went out of their way to make our stay as good as possible. I have only good things to say.

The location worked well for us: once we parked on arrival, there were plenty of shops and restaurants nearby and we didn’t need to use the car again until leaving. Check-in was quick, our room was lovely, and the kids could burn off energy in the indoor pool. We liked breakfast, though Pour Restaurant disappointed us. MESU, the attached but unaffiliated restaurant, was delightful and offers Hyatt customers a discount.

There were some check-in technical problems caused by communication between corporate Hyatt and the onsite Hyatt House Charleston/Historic District team. The team apologized graciously for the inconvenience and did what they could to make things right. They were friendly, fair, and professional, with wonderful hospitality in the Holy City. I’ll be back.
