Quality Inn Charleston - West Ashley

This is a convenient location for me, but the room wasn’t what I expect from Quality Inn. It was very noisy and badly in need of attention. The walls needed cleaning and paint, the bathroom door should be replaced, and the toilet was tiny, with a seat that clearly didn’t fit it. The tank lid was from a full-sized toilet and about a foot too wide. Best of all, the door lock fell off.

I’d stayed here before without any trouble, but this time was horrible. The old bed was really uncomfortable, the door lock was broken, and the place had a severe bedbug infestation. There were roaches too, and I was bitten all over. I spent over $300 only to be treated badly. I reported it within an hour, and the guy was very rude. He told me to check out right away but wouldn’t refund any money or move me to another room. Don’t spend your money here. Getting a decent room feels like Russian roulette.

The room had visible mold and was far below an acceptable level of cleanliness. If it had been refundable, I would have left right away. I won’t stay here again and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who wants a hygienic, respectful experience. Management was poor and unprofessional. They changed my reservation because the booking name didn’t match the credit card, then staff spoke to me rudely and condescendingly. They knew I had a disability and would have difficulty leaving, but the manager showed no empathy. The manager also withdrew my points and denied me my rewards.

The location was convenient, with a Waffle House and gas station right next door on the same side of the street. Walmart and two shopping malls were about 15 minutes away, and buffets, restaurants, shopping centers, downtown Charleston, and the Atlantic Ocean were only a few minutes away. The staff weren’t too bad. They left us alone but knocked to see if we needed anything. The room, number 249, was apparently the smokers’ room. The blankets had holes and stains, the pillows were much too small, and there was a little black mold on the ceiling. The doors, walls, and curtains had holes and stains too. After driving 14 hours from my home state of MICHIGAN, my boyfriend and I went to Walmart to buy bedding. I wouldn’t recommend this place to families with kids or larger groups. If you’re short on money and desperate for somewhere to sleep, maybe.
