Fairfield Inn & Suites Charlotte University Research Park

I’ve stayed in lots of hotels because I travel often, and this one is the cleanest by far. The rooms, elevators, hallways, lobby, and bathrooms all smelled consistently great, especially the bathroom. Everyone was pleasant and helpful, from the front desk and housekeeping to the house man and maintenance staff. The AGM respectfully helped me get my three kids to our room during a snowstorm. Marina at the desk went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. Shaniya, the breakfast attendant, and Yadira would go back into the kitchen when we asked to make sure we had what we needed. Yadira even made me a fresh batch of grits, southern style and very good. Each time I’ve stayed, the atmosphere and experience have been among my best.

Breakfast had a good range of food and ran later than at other hotels, which I appreciated. The noon checkout was nice too. I only stayed one night, but the hotel was quiet and modern, and my room was clean and spacious. I loved the place and will definitely come back.

We came for a robotics competition, and the hotel made for a great stay for our group. The rooms were comfortable and spacious, though mine had a slight smell of smoke. Service was functional and good, just not as amazing as at some other places I’ve visited. The location wasn’t ideal. The half-built hotel behind us felt sketchy, as did the random police cars that drove by with two sirens on, then turned them off and left.

The mattress was the big letdown. It felt old, with springs you could feel and no support. Sitting on the edge to put on my socks, I nearly sank to the floor, and I felt every movement from my spouse. The shower pressure was so low you’d get only a few drops, even running fast. Breakfast was just alright, and kids from a soccer tournament made noise in the hallway that weekend, though I don’t blame the hotel for that. Otherwise, it was very clean, with a spacious room and friendly staff. It’s right off the interstate, close to UNC, shops, and restaurants. They got a lot right, but the bed really mattered. I give it 3/5, though it’s so close to a 5.
