Hampton Inn & Suites Charlotte Airport Lake Pointe

The hotel itself was nice enough, but the parking setup is such a pain. PMC Parking makes you use a QR code, adding a task at the end of an already long workday and another expense to itemize on a report. I’d rather they get rid of PCM and bill parking directly. This isn’t even a location that would have charged for parking a few years ago. Without PCM, I’d rate the hotel 4+; PCM gets a zero from me.

The room was spacious and clean, with good linens, a small fridge, and a nice couch. The bed was a little firm but comfortable. The bathroom was roomy and spotless, with a large shower, a handy ledge for shaving, and full-size products instead of all those little bottles. I left too early to try breakfast. I only stayed one Monday night, and the hotel was cleaner and newer than I expected. The King room cost $169, more than my Google search had said when I got there and booked, but I’ve paid much more and been disappointed. I’d have given five stars if there were a bathrobe. Charging guests for parking through an app also seemed like a ridiculous money grab. The location was convenient, though, just an eight-minute drive to the airport rental car return. If I fly out of Charlotte again, I’d definitely stay here.

We were exhausted and freezing after a very long day of flying when we reached Charlotte Airport late at night. I called the hotel shuttle and was told it would be there in 10 minutes. About 15 minutes later, a van marked Hampton Inn arrived, and we took what turned out to be the wrong shuttle. That was our mistake, but we were tired and cold and didn’t realize. The Hampton we landed at called us a Lyft back to the airport, and we appreciated that. The desk clerk said it was all he was allowed to do. From the airport, we called again and asked how to identify the right shuttle. We were told another 10 minutes, but waited 20 with no van. By then I was freezing, so I went inside and changed into warmer clothes. We eventually saw the correct shuttle, after seeing a couple of other Hampton Inn vans stop and ask passengers which location they needed. The shuttle system was confusing. I called to cancel our prepaid Expedia reservation, but Hampton Inn said no because it was booked through Expedia. I know they could have cancelled it, since Expedia calls hotels to ask them to do that. We booked elsewhere and were picked up promptly. I didn’t actually stay at this Hampton Inn, so this review is only about the customer service. The mistake was ours, but Hampton Inn Lake Pointe could at least have tried to help. We have several more Charlotte overnights coming up, and we definitely won’t stay there.

The free shuttle was a welcome bonus and ran efficiently, and the late evening and early morning front office staff were courteous and helpful. As a Hampton Inn/Hilton Honours member, I was very pleased with Hampton Inn & Suites Charlotte Airport Lake Pointe. I arrived after midnight and needed to get back to the airport by 7 a.m., so the convenient location checked all the boxes. I’d strongly recommend it.
