Renaissance Charlotte SouthPark

I stayed one night and enjoyed it. The neighborhood was quiet and distinct, and the room was clean, nicely decorated, and comfortable. The chair upholstery was pretty worn, but it didn’t bother me. The floor was cold, and there were no slippers, which is a shame for a hotel in this class. Some of the hotel was closed off because of renovation work, though what I could see looked promising. There’s a fitness room and an indoor pool. The staff were kind and helpful, with good suggestions for places nearby. If I’m back in the area, I’ll likely stay here again.

The toilet was going off all night, periodically spitting water onto the floor whenever the lid wasn’t on. There was also a loud fan running outside my room all night, apparently drying the carpet. After traveling all day, I was exhausted and went to bed feeling dejected. Earlier, I’d gone downstairs to ask for another room, but the middle-aged white woman manager said they were sold out and would send an engineer. The engineer was cool, agreed there was a problem, and said he’d work on the plumbing system and talk to management. Just as I was nearly asleep, the front desk called to ask if I wanted a new room. I wondered whether one had suddenly become available or if I’d been lied to before for no reason. I said I’d take it in the morning. In the morning, I showed the front desk staff a video of the toilet problem, and they were cool. They gave me a new room and told me to grab a snack from the fridge. Thanks, Charlotte Renaissance. That was gross. The bar staff were the only saving grace. They were cool.

We really enjoyed staying here. South Park mall and several shopping and dining spots are an easy walk away, and the hotel has a small patio for catching some sun plus an indoor pool. The workout area is especially nice, with a sauna too. The place has been newly renovated, and the staff were terrific, thoughtful, and very attentive. Thanks, Juan Carlos!

After getting up at 4:00 a.m. for a work trip, I expected check-in to be straightforward. Instead, the room delay left me tired and disrupted my evening, and the hotel only decided to move me elsewhere late at night. The staff were polite and apologized, eventually arranging a shuttle after first saying transportation wasn't available. They covered one night at the sister hotel and offered Marriott Bonvoy points, even though I'm not a member. I arrived around 5:30 p.m., already past the usual check-in time, and was told my room wasn't ready. Nobody could give me an estimate, so I went to dinner and came back around 8:00. It still wasn't ready. I was told it should be within an hour and could either wait or go to the sister hotel. After waiting and checking again, I was told I had to relocate. I appreciate how professionally the staff handled things, but the room planning and communication fell short. Guests shouldn't be left waiting for hours without clear updates and then sent to another property late in the evening. I hope the hotel improves its planning and communication so this doesn't happen to other guests.
