Suburban Studios near University of North Carolina-Charlotte

The front desk guy was nice, but I couldn't stay here. I had booked four nights and left within five minutes of arriving. Marijuana smell was strong in both the lobby and the room, and the fridge wasn't even pushed against the wall. The online photos made the actual room look much better than it was. Even though I hadn't stayed, they charged me for one night under their “policy.” That policy needs to change.

Check-in was quick and hassle-free, and the room was roomy and clean. The location was convenient for getting to my job. The tall bearded guy at the front desk was very helpful.

The room had a door that wouldn't open properly, a toilet that didn't flush, and a heater that smelled like it was burning when switched on. The bed linens were dirty, too. Customer service was poor on top of all that. I don't know how this hotel passed a sanitation rating. I won't be back, and I'd save your money and stress by staying somewhere else.

I canceled my reservation after pulling into the lot, even though I had no idea whether I'd find another hotel. The building looked like it needed a good wash, and there was trash scattered all over the parking area, as if someone had dumped open garbage bags there. Several people were talking to themselves in the lot. You can take that description as you will. I didn't feel safe getting out of my car or leaving it unattended, and I'd have rather slept in it than stay there. I usually book the cheapest hotel I can find, but this place wasn't cheap enough for me. I can't speak to the inside since I refused to get out, but from what I saw outside, it's a zero out of five.
