M Hotel Buffalo

The check-in guys were really nice, and we mainly booked this place for the pool. For one night, it did the job, but it was loud after dark with lots of older kids there for nearby sports tournaments. The room was extremely hot, and we couldn't get the AC going. Some areas have been updated, though the bathroom felt old and the pullout bed had stains.

The pool is a real plus here, and the hotel has been kept up reasonably well for an older place. Breakfast was decent, though sometimes the items were name brands and other times they were off brand. I would have liked a waffle iron. My room was meant to be an upgrade, with a jetted tub, but the shower setup was awkward: the tub was pushed against the right wall and the showerhead was on the left, so it was hard to stand under the water. I tried the tub the second night, and it took ages to fill because it was so big. Don't turn on the jets before it's full.

The staff were kind, and our room was clean. The beds, though, were VERY hard, and only one elevator was working. The lobby and pool look quite nice, but the fitness center was poorly kept. The temperature controls were frustrating. Our room stayed at 71 even after I set the thermostat to 64. At an event in the ballroom, vendors complained about the heat, so we tried lowering it there too. The display changed, but the room stayed at 73 all weekend and got hotter as more people arrived. Clean room and nice staff were about the only upsides.

The beds were comfortable and the sheets were nice, and the location was convenient to reach, with little traffic. But the room itself felt rundown and gross. The carpet looked like it had been through a mud bath, the toilet was dirty, and the tub was peeling. The shower was hard to turn on. Staff weren't very polite and were difficult to deal with when the power went out. We had no electricity or hot water for hours, so we left early. It might be okay for a one-night sleep if the price is right.
