We come to CR for a week every year, and I look forward to that getaway each time. The grounds are wonderful, the pools are just the right temperature, and the location is hard to beat. I’d like the rooms updated, the snack shack menu improved, and the common areas cleaned more carefully. The wheelchair lift into the pool seems unused, and it’s covered in spider webs.

Our Mother’s Day brunch at Campbell’s was a miserable experience, starting with the reservation. We called two weeks ahead and booked by phone, then came in for dinner on the Friday before Mother’s Day, only two days before brunch. The hostess confirmed it in person. On Sunday, staff couldn’t find us in their records. The general manager spoke to us in a patronizing, condescending way, as though we’d made it up. Fortunately, we had a confirming text that showed their mistake. We waited 30 minutes while they scrambled to fit us in, and they still made us feel at fault instead of acknowledging what had gone wrong. Their reservation system let us book, but they had a separate ticketed Mother’s Day event and hadn’t mentioned that when we called. Whoever took our reservation clearly got it wrong, but that wasn’t our responsibility. Once we were finally seated, reluctantly, the buffet was cold and the food was underwhelming. The omelette station was the one good part. At $75 per person, it was a terrible experience, and I can’t recommend the place.

The rooms feel too small and overpriced for a family of four, with rock-hard beds. The bathroom is just a toilet and shower, while the sink sits outside by the so-called kitchen nook, which is only a small counter and mini fridge. For the rates compared with other resorts in the state, this place falls far short. The location is fantastic, really iconic, and that’s what you’re paying for.

We had beautiful views from the room, and the pool and hot tub were well kept and relaxing. There’s also a small beach and swim area, which was a fun extra. The rooms were roomy, clean, and comfortable, though the bathrooms could use updating. Check-in was quick, and everything was ready when we arrived. The onsite restaurant was the weak spot. Its food and service didn’t measure up to the rest of the hotel or other local options. Even so, it was a lovely stay, and I’d come back for the views and laid-back atmosphere.

The room was spacious, the view was pretty, the staff were friendly, and the food was amazing. But I wouldn’t stay again unless they address the mattresses and the AC/heater. The beds were hard with deep dips from previous use, so my lower back didn’t even touch the mattress when I lay down. I slept badly the whole visit and came down with something after getting home, right before finals week. Toppers in some rooms would be an easy option for people who want a softer bed. The sink drained painfully slowly. I reported it at check-in and was told maintenance would come the next day, but no one did. The old tubs are really narrow, though at least they have curved shower rods. There’s no towel rack by the shower. The AC/heater runs constantly, with a warm/cold dial and no actual temperature numbers, switching between hot and cold air around the clock. The vent blows right across the bed, which I felt also weakened my immune system. There’s no main light either, so you have to turn on four to six separate lamps. And the bathroom fan switch is above the toilet, away from the other switches.
