Hampton Inn Norfolk/Chesapeake (Greenbrier Area)

The stay was great, with polite staff and good breakfast items. My only complaint was the exterior room doors. They were very hard to open from both inside and outside, which made bringing in and taking out luggage and my grandson’s stroller difficult.

They made room for my late arrival even though I missed the check-in time, and gave me a quiet, private room that felt safe and clean. Staff were friendly and professional throughout. The hotel could use remodeling, but it was still a good stay. Give your staff a raise!

My mother and I were in town for a funeral and rented two rooms. We checked in around 7 pm and left at 8:30 that evening because both rooms were dirty and smelled strongly of urine. I don’t know whether it was dog or human urine. We told the front desk, but instead of sending someone to inspect, they said to tell them when we were leaving so they could put in a machine to remove the smell. There was no apology. The woman at the desk said we could talk the next day and they’d move us to another room, which meant we were apparently expected to stay in rooms that smelled and were filthy. We sat in the room that smelled less, then decided we couldn’t stay and found another hotel. The desk agent promised not to charge us and to refund us in full, but when we checked out an hour later, she changed her story and said she couldn’t put anything in writing and we’d have to wait until the next day. They still charged one night for both rooms, $248.57 each. That’s wildly overpriced for those conditions, especially since we never touched one of the rooms because the odor was so awful. I was shocked by the front desk’s nonchalant attitude and the health concerns this raises. I was traveling with children, and the conditions were unacceptable. Neither the front desk nor management apologized. I don’t understand how this is associated with Hilton or how the hotel remains open with staff willing to let guests stay in those disgusting conditions. If you can afford another hotel, stay far away.

Conveniently located near shopping, dining, and main roads, Hampton Inn Chesapeake was a comfortable place to unwind after a long day. The rooms were spotless, comfortable, and well maintained. Staff were welcoming and professional from the time I arrived, with consistent hospitality and attention to detail that made me feel valued. Breakfast was fresh, satisfying, and had plenty of options. I’d highly recommend the hotel to anyone visiting the area for its comfort, cleanliness, and service.
