Rodeway Inn Middletown - Newport

The stay was otherwise fine, and the location is convenient, but it had a motel feel and smell. The room was okay. What bothered me was that they didn't take out the trash during our three days there. We had fish and chips we didn't want sitting in the room, so we bagged it and left it outside the door. They brought it back and told us it was our trash. We ended up emptying the room bins ourselves and taking everything to the parking lot bins. If you bring food back from restaurants or have other rubbish, apparently you're responsible for disposing of it.

The front desk people were really kind. The rooms were small but clean, though they smelled, and the hallways did too. The walls are thin, so you'll hear your neighbors.

The place was spacious and clean, with a good breakfast selection of pastries and decent coffee. My complaints were that the refrigerator didn't work and it took about 10 minutes for the shower water to get hot.

The bed was decent, but my bathroom smelled moldy and had a tiny pedestal sink. I paid $50 extra for a ground floor room as a solo traveler, and it doesn't seem fair that a family with loud kids can book it at the same cost. Solo guests are quiet and use fewer resources, so they should get a discount. Families should pay more.
