Canopy by Hilton Chicago Central Loop

The hotel looks nice and the rooms are decorated well, but that didn’t make for a comfortable work trip. My coworkers and I stayed overnight last week, and we all had trouble with the beds. Mine offered no support at all. I sank right in, barely slept, and woke up with a backache. A clean room and a comfortable bed are the two basics I expect, and I only got one of them. My room also felt chilly. The thermostat wouldn’t go above 72°F, even though it was in the 50s outside, and the blankets weren’t warm enough. Guests should be able to adjust the room to feel comfortable. Management acknowledged the problems and said they were “working on it,” which didn’t leave me confident. When we tried to raise our concerns with the front desk, all we got was “OK.” No apology or acknowledgment, and it didn’t feel professional. The hotel’s looks can’t make up for uncomfortable rooms and dismissive service. I hope they fix these issues, but I wouldn’t stay here again.

The restaurant and bar were good for both breakfast and dinner, and the lobby common areas felt welcoming and were clean. The fitness center was well stocked, too. It’s also an ideal spot, close to Quincy station and convenient for walking around the Loop and downtown. This is my second stay, and there’ll be another. The hotel is one of the finest I’ve visited. The rooms were spotless, tastefully furnished with a modern touch, quiet, and comfortable, with thoughtful details like a good coffee system, filtered water on every floor, and real mugs and glassware. Service was top notch from the front desk through the cleaning staff. Everyone welcomed me with a smile and a willingness to help.

We booked through Amex Hotel Collection, and the hotel honored my Hilton Gold benefits along with the $100 Amex benefit. The downstairs restaurant, Depot, was a highlight. Its breakfast and dinner options were excellent, especially for such a small space. The only letdown was that there was no room service, so we had to get food to go and carry it back upstairs. The staff were helpful, too. Our thermostat was locked at 70 degrees, but when I asked for it to be cooler, the engineers were happy to lower it. The Canopy has thoughtful design, comfortable amenities, great decor, and a nice location. Our room was near a water filtration station and still not too far from the elevator, even though it was at the end of the hall. I’d stay again.

The room was comfortable and beautifully decorated, and I really like the boutique feel of the Canopy brand. It’s also easy to get to the Loop and Union Station from here. My husband and I had a lovely stay. The front desk staff weren’t especially friendly, though the bar staff were very nice.
