Logan Square SRO Hotel

The bedding was soft, and having a sink in the room was handy. There was only under-bed storage, no closet, and no hair dryer or complimentary shampoo, conditioner, or body wash. At the price of a full-sized bed and shared bathroom in a small room in April, four days felt steep. This is more like a hostel private room than a hotel, and a few more amenities could help it stand out from nearby lodging. It wasn't my first choice, but I needed somewhere in a pinch because my first lodging was too far from the sights I wanted to see. It's in a residential part of Logan Square, about a 7 minute walk from the blue line, with short bus rides to several restaurants on Milwaukee and to Humboldt Park. The neighborhood was quiet at night and felt completely safe to walk around after taking the L or bus. The unit was quiet too, though a room near the exit door will hear it slam because there's no closer arm to slow it down. Keep in mind that it's all stairs if carrying luggage or using stairs is an issue.

A really nice alternative to a standard hotel. We chose this unmanned place because it was close to people we were visiting, in an area with few hotels, and ended up being very happy with it. It's also handy for good places to eat and the blue train line, and we'll definitely stay again. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. It had a sink, coffee maker with pods, fridge, small microwave, and shelves for storage. We had basic toiletries and Terry robes. The private bathroom was across the hall, with a good shower and plenty of room to change.

We had a great long weekend, and the location, neighborhood, and rates were all good. The blue line station made getting downtown easy, the rooms were clean, and we never felt unsafe. The in-hotel laundry was a lifesaver, too, and let us wear our new thrift finds. The setup felt more like an AirBnB than a hotel. When I book a hotel, I expect basic toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, especially when flying in so I don't have to pack them. The website clearly explained the shared bathroom, but wasn't clear about toiletries. I used my friend's, since I couldn't imagine buying a full-size product at the 7/11 and then squeezing it into my checked luggage for the flight home. The robes were appreciated, but disposable slippers would be a good addition for shared bathrooms. Foot fungus is no joke, so we bought some in Chinatown. We'd book again, but would bring our own toiletries and slippers.

The rooms were clean, modern, and quiet, and my private bathroom was clean and stocked with shampoo, conditiner, and soap. My only gripe was that my room faced an interior wall and got very little light. There are plenty of walkable food and drink options, and the location sits between the airport and downtown on public transit. The latch door unlocking system was easy to use once the hotel staff helped with a login issue. They responded quickly and were helpful. I'd stay again.
