Wrigley Hostel

I arrived late and tried not to disturb anyone. Then I felt something crawling on me and found more than 12 ants in the bed. The next morning I showed the clerk a video, and he agreed it was disgusting. I messaged the owner/manager that I'd contact the health department. They apologized and offered a refund, but I said that wasn't enough after the ant bites and the three hours I spent getting ants out of my bags and clothes. I asked them to put me in their queen guestroom for free for 2 nights. My Expedia reservation was canceled, and I received a letter saying I'd been “disrespectful” to a staff member during my recent visit. I guess complaining about ants in your bed is disrespectful. Now I'm posting this Google review, contacting Chicago Department of Health, and filing a lawsuit.

We were in town for the cubs game, and the free parking and walking distance to wrigley were useful. The shared bathrooms and showers were clean, but you have to bring your own toiletries. There are communal spaces with a pool table, shuffle board table, dartboard, computers, TV, couches, tables, and a kitchen. I booked a private queen bed room after thinking I was booking a hotel, but the reservation was nonrefundable. Some rooms have communal bunk beds; ours didn't, though we still shared the bathroom, shower, kitchen, and common areas. The bed was comfortable, but the room was too hot, and the place was noisy. Pipes and house sounds carried loudly, and in this old building we could hear people walking and closing doors all night, on top of expected street noise. If you're used to hostels and don't mind sharing with strangers, it's okay. For us, it was hot and loud, and not the most comfortable room, though the price and free parking made the stay okay.

The staff, including Ida, Dante, and Kat, were very helpful. Dorm rooms are a decent size, and the beds are comfy. There's a lovely outdoor deck and a nice common room downstairs. Wrigley Field is a two-minute walk away, if that's your thing, and the Metro is right there for getting downtown. Good value for money too.

I've stayed at this hostel many times and have always had a good experience. The staff are nice and helpful, the beds are clean and comfortable, and the location is good. Two things could improve it: add hangers in the rooms, and close the common room after 8 pm. Sometimes people are still talking or on their phones at 1030 and 11 pm. I'd recommend the hostel to others.
