Heritage Inn Express Chico

This was my second stay here; the first time was fine. I rented a room for three nights, but when I arrived it was dirty, the deadbolt didn’t work, there were no working or available outlets, and a heavy chemical smell triggered an allergic reaction. I asked to switch rooms and was offered either an upstairs room with no elevator access, which was a disability issue, or a downgraded room. After about 20 minutes there, I asked for a refund so I could stay somewhere else. They told me the receptionist was “dysregulated” too, then kicked me out of the lobby. Neither of us had yelled or sworn. I repeatedly asked for my cash deposit back, and they kept telling me to leave. I did, and police retrieved the deposit. Even after telling police they’d refund me, the hotel charged me for the night. The police helped me find lodging because the weather made my health situation dangerous. Their refusal to refund a stay I couldn’t use put my health at risk again. I’d recommend asking to see the room before signing anything. The woman with flower tattoos on her arm is a sweety. Stear clear of “Fae.”

The breakfast was a joke. Both mornings, the hostess didn’t even put out coffee, and she only started setting out food after people arrived, more than an hour late. You also have to request cleaning each day or they skip your room. Inside, it was dismal, with nails sticking out of the floor and crooked light fixtures hanging from the walls. I’d strongly suggest staying at any other hotel in Chico.

It’s clearly an older, slightly worn place, but the room was clean and the bed very comfortable, which mattered most to me. The staff were nice, and breakfast was included.

Nothing fancy, just a nice little place with what you need from a hotel. It’s downtown and close to lots of restaurants and activities.
