Sycamore Inn

The property was quiet and well kept, with nice rooms, a good location, and friendly service.

We came for a quick weekend away, mainly because of the jacuzzi tub, but ended up wanting to get away from the motel. The tub was dated and missing knobs, though it worked and the water was warm enough. The bed was clean, and we were exhausted after arriving at 10:57 p.m. and getting into room 114 around 11:15. While I was soaking, my husband saw something dart across the floor. He caught it, and it was a huge light-brown cockroach, not a waterbug. I got dressed, grabbed my bag, and left immediately. My husband killed it, bagged it, and took it to the front desk. We had to ring the buzzer three times before a man came from the back. I explained politely that another kind of bug wouldn't have made me react this way, but I couldn't stay. We'd been there less than three hours, and we had the roach as proof, so I asked for a refund. He smiled, said he understood, and told us they don't give refunds. He offered no fix or other solution. I had my husband hand over the roach so they could keep it while I disputed the $198 charge with my bank. I'm not paying that for an old tub and cockroaches.

For the price, it was a decent place, though the free breakfast was only a bowl of cereal. I paid $230 for three nights and planned to add one more, but the woman at the desk said they were full. Booking.com showed eight rooms available, including three like the one I had, so I left because I felt she'd lied to me. It was rude after I'd already paid for the stay.
