Best Western Childress West Hotel

The AC was the one good thing. I could set it to a comfortable sleeping temperature, since they don't clamp the thermostat like many hotels do. Everything else was nasty. The corners were grimy, the floor turned my socks brown, and the breakfast was inedible. The shower setup also sends water all over the bathroom.

We were tired, so we stayed, but the place was run down, smelled old and stale, and cost way too much for what it was. There's no elevator either. This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed at, and I absolutely won't be back.

My coworker was given a room that hadn't been cleaned at all, with soda cans and pizza boxes on the counter. Other rooms stood open and uncleaned, with brooms propped against their doors. Mine was only partly cleaned, and the housekeeping effort was extremely poor: the trash was still there, toilet paper hadn't been replaced, the toilet wasn't clean, and the floor clearly hadn't been swept. There was dirt, fuzz and hair around, including what looked like pubic hair on the bathroom floor. The shelves were dusty, and even the hotel information cards on the desk had been knocked over. The room was beside a noisy highway, and the AC was loud too, almost 60 dB together. I travel for work and spend 52 weeks a year in hotels, but this was my first Best Western. At $120 after tax, it was definitely the worst place I've paid the most for this year. I've stayed in nicer places for $40 a night.

People banged hard on our door at midnight and again at 4:40 in the morning, as if they were trying to get into our room. We think the hotel hadn't updated its system and was trying to check other guests into our room. We called the front desk, but nobody came to help. The next morning, the employee offered neither an apology nor any assistance, just said he didn't know what happened. We barely slept, and continuing our road trip was difficult. My husband and I had already had to switch rooms because the first one was dirty and its AC didn't work. We're Best Western Rewards members with several future bookings, and this stay has us worried about the safety and quality of Best Western hotels.
