SureStay Hotel by Best Western Childress

For what we paid, the accommodations were laughable. The bed was uncomfortable, the bedding was stained, and the towel rack literally fell off the wall. Breakfast was barely anything. We paid twice what we’d spent a week earlier for a much nicer hotel. I’m usually a very low-maintenance traveler, but this was ridiculous.

Thin walls meant we could hear everything, including people who seemed to live there full time. The room had bugs and spiders, and no chair or table lamp. They charged me twice for my dog. With bugs in the room, I should’ve charged them for having pets.

The manager told me she didn’t care what I did when I said I was calling corporate. The front desk clerk had also told me they called around and were charging what everyone else was because construction crews were in town. My rate was much higher than the quote on the website, and I called that price gouging, which is illegal. Outside, the construction workers were partying for nearly five hours while I tried to sleep. They even had a grill chained to a post. I called the desk twice, but the noise kept going. My room had no tub or bedside lamps either. Avoid at all costs.

There’s plenty of parking, and the renovated rooms have lots of space. Breakfast is complimentary and the coffee is good. The hotel is right by the highway, with a Starbucks directly in front and a shopping complex nearby.
