Hickory Falls Guesthouse

We loved staying here. Everything was straightforward, including the no-front-desk setup and getting the information by text. We could park right by the room. It was small, simple, and clean, just right for our weekend getaway. We’d definitely stay again.

I loved the text check-in and room code instead of a key card, which made arriving simple. The lobby had games and refreshments, and there was a fenced dog area. A storage closet let us pick up forgotten things, including a pack and play, razors, toothbrush kits, and refills for items already in the room. Parking was available, which I appreciated after seeing how limited it is in Chimney Rock village. There’s a waterfall view from the front, and it’s not far from town, though the hotel is on the outskirts. There aren’t sidewalks, but a wide grassy shoulder makes walking feel safe enough. We booked a family deluxe room at this self-service hotel, with a king bed and a twin. It was the cheapest option in town, and I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful room and how clearly the people who run the hotel care for it. I hadn’t expected the twin to be a top bunk with chairs below. My two-year-old enjoyed his night up on the ceiling, despite bonking his head several times and asking for a drill to “make a big hole up here.” The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was big enough, but there’s no fan so it gets humid. I considered opening the window, but at night saw bugs drawn to the light outside and changed my mind. A screen might help.

We walked out the door and had the mountain and waterfall right there, with the river always audible. The view from our very clean apartment was spectacular, and it had everything we needed for a great weekend. The town, with shops and places to eat, is just to the left. I loved watching the rain from the window and porch. T-Mobile signal came and went, as you’d expect in the mountains, and there was a storm while we were there, but reception was good inside and outside the room. Check-in and checkout were self-service and very convenient. There’s a guest closet for supplies and a lounge for relaxing. I did have a problem with the bedroom TV on our last day, but the Manager and Owner both contacted me personally right away. The owner and staff were so kind. I rented the apartment at Hickory Falls Inn for a four-day weekend to get away, and it felt like a home away from home. I’ve stayed other places, but Hickory Falls Inn gave me that down-home mountain living experience and a real break from everything. The trip meant a lot because my dad, who passed away in September of last year, had wanted to visit the mountains when he got better. He never got to go, so I went and said, “Dad, this is for you!!” It’s a stay I’ll remember, and I’ll be back more often, even when I just need a break from the world. Thank you Bridgett and Zandra for making it so peaceful and wonderful.

At sunset, we sat in two comfortable wooden chairs by the brook, looking toward the mountain and waterfall. We also watched bats in the twilight. The road traffic was loud at first, though it thinned out later, and the moon over the cliffs was phenomenal. We stayed in room 6 in July 2023, on the lower level at the end by the steps. It had a king bed, two chairs, good AC for July, and two more chairs with a table outside. I highly recommend staying here.
