The Carter Lodge On The River

The river running just outside the room and the views made it feel like we were out in the mountains. Chimney Rock State Park and a beautiful river are right behind the lodge. We stayed in the Dirty Dancing Suite on our first visit to Carter’s Lodge, and it was beautiful, mostly wood and logs, with a surreal view out the window. The room was spacious, the bathroom a little small but fine for showering and using the toilet, and the bed was very comfortable. We liked the jacuzzi bathtub, too. There were outdoor BBQ spots with utensils for cooking your own food. The little cafe was being renovated, but already had several items for sale. Staff were extremely helpful and took time to talk through any concerns, probably the best we’ve encountered at a motel or hotel. They also have a Presidential Suite that could fit a whole party or large family. This won’t be our last visit, and we look forward to coming back year after year.

The balcony view of Chimney Rock was a lovely extra, and we could walk comfortably from the hotel to restaurants and shops. My family, including our kids aged 7 and 4 and our dog, stayed for the weekend. Everything was clean, and the service was friendly, helpful, and exceptional. We expected some nighttime noise from neighbors or traffic, but were pleasantly surprised that there wasn’t any. The staff’s thoughtfulness helped make it a great stay. We’ll happily return and highly recommend it.

We had a lot of fun walking around town, checking out the shops, strolling along the river, and getting a brew. It’s a fun town, and the motel is close to everything. Our room had a wonderful balcony view of the river and Chimney Rock, with a rustic look, lovely decor, and top-notch bedding. The bathroom was small but very functional and nicely decorated. The owners were accommodating, and we bought a breakfast sandwich from their small snack shop to eat on the balcony while enjoying the view.

After a day at Lake Lure and a walk around downtown chimney rock, my boyfriend and I stayed here and felt it was worth the price. The room was very clean and the bed really comfortable. The owners were nice, and there was a good deli right next door. From the balcony we had a beautiful creek view. Everything is walkable, so we didn’t have to worry about parking. I’d definitely stay again.
