Comfort Inn & Suites Christiansburg I-81

The breakfast was great last year, and this time the woman at the desk offered us coffee and danishes at 6am, before breakfast officially started. We had to leave early each morning, so we couldn't make the regular 6:30 breakfast. I'm grateful she thought of us. We were back at the Comfort Inn in Christiansburg, VA for a second stay. When we arrived at noon, there was only one car in the lot. A man came down the hall after we waited at the desk. I said I was there to check in and asked if a room was ready. Before he had even reached the computer, he said check-in was at 3. Then he found my reservation and asked for an extra $30 for early check-in. When I asked whether the room wasn't ready, he stumbled over his answer and just repeated the fee. He seemed unfriendly and spiteful. I declined, and since our plans kept us away until later, we returned at 10pm. That evening the staff member was extremely nice and helpful. Still, the first interaction and the charge seemed ridiculous when the parking lot was so empty. Next year we'll stay at Tru (Hilton) across the street.

The second room, 324, was clean, with a fine bed and soft pillows. The shower water got hot enough, though the faucet squealed loudly while I was using it. The refrigerator worked as it should. I might stay here again if I'm in the area. I stayed two nights. Sam greeted me politely at check-in, and quickly moved me from room 308 when its smoke detector kept chirping because it needed a battery. Sam apologized for the inconvenience. There were a few maintenance problems in the new room, including frayed carpet and peeling paint on some walls. At checkout, the desk person was talking on his cellphone and didn't ask how the stay had been.

Everything felt 10/10. My mom is very particular about cleanliness, and she was genuinely happy with how clean the room was. She doesn't speak English, but the staff treated her kindly and paid attention to her.

My fiancé's Valentine's Day was ruined. I'd booked more than a week ahead, but when we arrived two hours after check-in, the room was dirty. There wasn't another room like the one I'd booked, so taking a downgrade was the only alternative. I left. Thanks a lot, COMFORT INN DISAPPOINTING.
