Blackburn Cabins

The cabins had everything we needed for our week in the backcountry, including coffee, games, and regional guide books. Our group of eight had a lot of gear and extra baggage, and the staff went out of their way to help us coordinate it. They picked us up at the foot bridge and drove us to the town center the next morning, and met us in person to explain the amenities. The people and service stood out most. We were emailing back and forth for months before the trip to get travel suggestions and advice, and they were great throughout.

We had such a good time at Blackburn cabins. The cabins are cute and clean, and the staff were ready to help with anything, even booking our excursions. Thanks especially to Mary and Will for making us feel welcome. We'll definitely be back.

We spent three nights at Blackburn cabins. It was really clean and well appointed, and the hot-water showers were actually hot. Bring a USB connector for anything you need to charge.

The rustic cabin was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the walk to McCarthy was reasonable. Check-in and checkout communication was top notch, and the shuttle was great. The mosquitoes in this area are vicious! We loved seeing the national park on a flightseeing tour and hiking Bonanza Mine and Root Glacier. It felt like the best value lodging in Wrangell St Elias, and I'm glad we stayed two nights. We did have one snag when the shower ran out of hot water. After I told the owners, I heard they'd replaced the shower system, so it shouldn't be a problem now. Hot water is a real luxury in this remote area, and it was good to see the owners working to improve things for guests. One small thing to know: the USB charging is all USB-A, so pack the right cords. You could also contact the cabins beforehand, since they may have extras you can borrow.
