Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza

The location was what mattered most to me, and this hotel made it easy to get around on foot, with everything and several great neighborhoods nearby. The lobby also has really strong, tasty coffee early in the morning, and it’s worth grabbing a drink in the bar during the day. I loved the Art Deco interior, and the service made the stay. The standard check-in was 4 PM, but a kind, gracious young woman at the front desk arranged an early check-in so I could nap and still reach my destination on time. The room was clean and in good shape, the bed was super comfortable, and the bathroom was clean too. It wasn’t fancy, there were a couple of free waters and a fridge, and the view wasn’t great, but I didn’t care about that. Hilton Cincinnati Netherlands plaza hotel was a fantastic experience, and I highly recommend it.

The hotel’s decor and preservation of its original 1930’s design were beautiful, and I enjoyed reading about its history. Most of the staff were friendly, nice, and welcoming. But the only reason I gave Service one star was Dwayne, who is also the head of the Kitchen. My husband surprised me with a wonderful date night, then at 9:00am the next morning we went for breakfast and found it closed, even though signs around the hotel said otherwise. Dwayne was in the dining area. When I brought it up, he walked away, and when my husband tried to speak to him, he ignored him too. It was incredibly rude, especially with the inconvenience. Several guests were turned away because nobody had told them breakfast was ending early that morning. He left a staff member to apologize to everyone while he ignored the problem. **UPDATE** I got a generic response saying they were glad I enjoyed my stay. If they’d read my review, they’d have seen how badly I was treated by that staff member. Disappointed again.

Right downtown, with a beautiful river view and plenty of food, shops, and entertainment within walking distance. The hotel itself is beautiful and the service was great. Room service got our order wrong twice, though, and each delivery took almost an hour. The bathroom was a little small, which makes sense in an old building. I really enjoyed the stay.

The location is excellent, with lots of Cincy attractions within walking distance, and I love the effort to preserve the historic charm. The art deco lobby really does feel like stepping into a time machine, like the Empire State Building. The rooms need a lot of TLC. They’re old and banged up, and of all the Hiltons I’ve stayed in around the country, this one probably needs the most work. Stained sheets, blankets, and mattresses made my wife and me change rooms three times. The front desk was more than accommodating through it all. It wasn’t the worst hotel I’ve stayed at, but I’d like to see some improvements before coming back.
