The John Butler House Bed & Breakfast

The John Butler B&B was quiet, peaceful, and in a safe area. We had a wonderful weekend in the cozy house. Everything was clean and just as described, and all the staff we met at the restaurants were friendly. We've added it to our list of places to visit again.

I've stayed here three times over the past two years. It feels like a home, and has always been quiet, very clean, comfortable, and safe. I can't imagine a negative review, especially one claiming there were bugs in the kitchen and bathroom. That can't be true.

There were plenty of breakfast choices, and the $10 voucher could be used at the restaurant. Downstairs, there's a shared living room and a kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave, and toaster. It's a nice, clean, quiet B&B if you keep your expectations modest. There are five rooms, and some share a bathroom. The rooms have no TV, bedside tables, reading lamps, or glass for water, and there's no in-room heat or air control. The shower has plastic dispensers for soap, shampoo, and conditioner, but the soap was empty. The ADA ramp to the front door was icy; they salted it the next day. There was no porch light, so arriving in the dark made unlocking the door a challenge. I got two keys, one for the front door and one for my room, and had to guess which was which.

We slept terribly, and this didn't feel like a real bed and breakfast. The kitchen was full of trash when we arrived, there were bugs in both the bedroom and bathroom, and the bedroom windows wouldn't lock. To check in, we had to walk across the golf course to the restaurant to collect the keys. The restaurant staff didn't know when breakfast service started. The $10 restaurant voucher was included with the stay, so again, it's not really a bed and breakfast. And watch out when sitting in the rocking chairs, the chair backs are broken. Does anyone look after this place? There was also a small booking mix-up. After we reserved a room, we were told it needed A/c maintenance or something, so we were moved to what may have been the worst room in the house. We paid the same nightly rate we expected to pay for the "nicer" room, even though the other rooms seemed to be unbooked.
