Motel 6 Clarion, PA

The price and location were convenient, and that's about the only nice thing I can say. We had to change rooms because the first one hadn't been cleaned properly. There was no trash, but the floor needed sweeping and surfaces needed wiping. The bathroom ceiling above the shower had black mold, there was hair everywhere, and the room had no remote. The second room was much the same, with hair around the sink, tub, and toilet, and floors that needed sweeping. The towel looked dirty, though it smelled clean. The front desk man said a mark on the floor was paint, but I could move it with my foot. I won't stay there again.

It's close to lots of stores and, for the price, not a bad motel overall. The room felt clean and secure, and the guy at the front desk was great and really nice. I didn't report the problems since he wouldn't have been able to fix them: the toilet leaked, and the water in the hot tub room was lukewarm at best.

We will not return, and I wouldn't recommend anyone stay here. After being on the road all day, my husband and I wanted showers and some rest during our two-night stay, but there was no hot water in our bathroom. It was cold showers or none; my husband said the cold water almost made him scream. The room smelled funky, the bed was springy and uncomfortable, and supplies were lacking. There were only a few sheets of toilet paper left from the previous guest and no Kleenex anywhere. The room was loud all night. Someone was yelling “I’m scared” on the phone in the hall outside our door, and the heater made a terrible cranking sound every time it came on, waking us up. I called for another pillow and was told someone would come right up, but nobody did. After I called again, someone finally brought a pillow that was tiny, flat, and lumpy. It felt like a personal “screw you for requesting anything.” We were out all day the next day, and nobody cleaned or restocked the room. We had no toilet paper, towels, Kleenex, or new soap. We never got Kleenex at all. When I complained, the person at the desk made it sound like we should have known to ask. Why should we have to request this? That's what you do. We went out for dinner after that call. When we got back, whoever had “restocked” had left dirty towels, with red and brown stains all over them. I took a picture. It was disgusting. If they weren't even cleaning the towels, I doubt the funky-smelling sheets were clean either. Motel 6 says, “We’ll leave the light on for you.” Apparently they didn't want to do that for us.

This is a very cheap place, and it could work if all you need is an inexpensive bed for a night. The room was outdated and needs upgrades. The sheets and towels weren't exactly dirty, but visible stains made things less comfortable, and there was a humid, musty smell. The shower valve was broken, and there wasn't even a trash can. You get what you pay for, so my expectations weren't high. Management should work on cleanliness, maintenance, and refreshing the rooms. Some basic upgrades and better cleaning would go a long way.
