Americas Best Value Inn & Suites Clarksdale

The location was easy to find, but this was the worst place I stayed during my cross-country trip. I was eager to leave the next morning, and the staff felt less welcoming than at the other inns, motels, and hotels I’d been to. As soon as I entered the room, I felt like something was biting me. Plastic and dusty mattress covers and stained sheets made me think there may once have been a bedbug problem. The coin-operated washer and dryer left my clothes filthy, with what looked like black grease stains, so they came out worse than they went in. I still can’t get the marks out of my new peach-colored top. Since I’m traveling light with only three outfits, losing that one left me with two.

The room was clean, but very basic, and the breakfast was simple as expected. We only stayed one night while traveling. It was a friendly place, though we slept on top of the bed because plastic was wrapped around the bottom to keep bedbugs away. Plugs were hanging out of the walls, and the door didn’t lock properly. You get what you pay for.

The staff were lovely. They quickly brought us an extra towel, and after checkout they called to let us know we’d left something behind. We slept so well in those beds, they felt like clouds. The place was clean, quiet, and comfortable, and breakfast was awesome, especially the bagels. We’d definitely recommend this motel.

The owner is nosy, and even though the place is supposed to be nonsmoking, it smells like weed. People smoke in front of the rooms or inside them, and management doesn’t do anything about it. I sure wouldn’t spend my own money staying here.
