Hampton Inn Clarksdale

The only part that bothered me was the lift, or elevator. One was out of service, and the one still running made a loud pop and shuddered when it started, which was unsettling. Otherwise it was a nice stay. The hotel is clean, with nice rooms and all the things we needed, including extra pillows and blankets. It’s centrally located near attractions, the staff are friendly and cordial, check-in and checkout were a breeze, and the complimentary breakfast was nice.

The bathroom was in bad shape, with a dried urine stain on the toilet and ants behind a loose tile. After 10 p.m., the desk clerk told us our two-queen room had been changed to one king without asking us. There were no rollaway beds or other two-queen rooms available. I asked the manager the next morning to credit one night. At checkout, she said we'd get half the cost of the stay back, which should have been $152 for our two-night visit. When I checked the receipt later, the credit was only $22. I’m not going to keep going back and forth about it. I gave them a chance to make it right, so please don’t follow up with an empty request for me to contact you. I’ll stay somewhere else next time.

The staff were nice and the place was clean, but I wouldn't stay here again. Our water smelled, only one ice machine on the third floor worked, and the keys wouldn't open the side doors. One of us also got stuck in the bathroom, and the staff didn't know what to do, so I used my tools to get her out. There was just one luggage cart, too. The manager said they'd charge us for one night only, but I haven't seen that adjustment yet.

My room was small and dated, and I was told at check-in that the Wi-Fi was down and I should use McDonald's Wi-Fi. The front desk employee spent about 30 seconds searching a drawer without making eye contact. The next morning, I asked Natalie for an empty brown paper bag to carry breakfast back to my room. She said those were only for Hilton Honors Members. I told her I'd been a member since 2014, but after checking my status, she said it wasn't high enough and offered me a garbage bag instead. It felt like the staff wouldn't help with even a basic request. Getting back downstairs was a problem too. Only one elevator opened, and on the way down it only offered the first-floor rear, leading to the laundry area, where sheets were lying on the floor.
