Westgate Inn & Suites

We had a really good stay over New Year’s, and I don’t know what the negative reviews are about. My wife, our three dogs, and I were there for three nights. The lounge was great for bringing in the new year, and the big breakfast was the best we’ve ever had at a motel. Our room was clean, there were no bugs, and the pool was nice and clean. Staff were friendly, and room service was great. I highly recommend this motel.

We stayed for three weeks while waiting for our apartment, and the stay was okay, though unpleasant at times. The pool was fun, and I’d bring future kids here for a birthday weekend, but I wouldn’t want another extended stay. The front desk staff were very friendly when I checked in. One man there said he wished he’d known we were military so he could have charged us more because military members get reimbursed for moving costs. That was frustrating, since we have to pay out of pocket before reimbursement. Maintenance tried to enter our room unannounced on several days, and the desk never gave us advance notice. The only call we got from them was about dinner being served for $7.50. Housekeeping staff often seemed to have an attitude toward guests. Other guests walking their dogs asked me if they had been rude to us too. They call the hotel pet friendly, but there’s nowhere to walk a dog except the Riverwalk a few blocks away, which is a nice chance to enjoy the scenery. The TV channels kept coming and going, though I’m not sure if rain was the reason. Our dog got bitten by fleas pretty badly despite our using flea prevention medicine. The upstairs washing machines are so old their settings have rubbed off, so we had to guess which buttons to press.

I wouldn’t recommend this place to a dawg. The guest service is really poor, and the property manager or owner doesn’t seem to know what she’s doing. She needs a hospitality class ASAP. Most of the rooms are out of order, and the hotel has leaks and other problems. The bar is really crappy, with only beer and not a good selection. The lounge is very out of date. The room quality isn’t up to standard either: the floors and ventilation system are very dirty, and the ventilation seems unsanitary to breathe. The tub lining is peeling off, and I’m pretty sure there’s mold growing somewhere in here.

The price was great for what you get, and I’d keep this place in mind if I’m passing through again. The kids loved the indoor pool, water slide, and splash pad. My youngest especially liked the small separate area, which was only a foot and a half deep. Breakfast was nice and free. Cleanliness was good apart from the bathroom by the pool and lobby, though I’m sure it gets a lot of use. One bed was comfortable and the other wasn’t, which I found odd, but at least the comfortable one was good.
