Le Meridien St. Louis Clayton

The hotel looks lovely, with modern decor, but the rooms didn't feel clean enough to justify the price. Our first room had mildew-smelling sheets and a stale, unpleasant odor throughout. I reported it, and the manager was accommodating at first and moved us. I was exhausted that night, so I didn't notice the stains on the second room's sheets until morning. The manager offered a restaurant breakfast credit, but the breakfast was disappointing too. I appreciate that staff tried to help, but between the odors and stained bedding, the stay wasn't worth what we paid.

We went through the full dinner, from lobster and swordfish to dessert, and everything was a hit. The whole thing takes about 2 hours, with stories, visuals, and surprises between courses as a projected chef prepares each one on your table. Le Petit Chef is now at Le Méridien St. Louis Clayton. It’s a fun date night or a different kind of evening in St. Louis, but seats are limited and you need a reservation.

I've stayed here several times for work, usually when the Residence Inn down the road is sold out or I'm only in town for 1-2 nights. Parking is on site, costs extra, and has plenty of spaces, which is a big plus in Clayton. The meeting rooms by the lobby were handy and nicely set up when we used them. In the room, the shower stalls are spotless, the water pressure is good, and you can change the showerhead mode. Beds are reasonably supportive, and the side table plugs charge a phone quickly. There's also a pullout bathroom mirror with regular and magnified views. Dining is decent, whether you eat at the bar or order takeout or room service. Room orders usually take about 15 minutes, with a 20% fee plus $5. Some of the annoyances are small but add up. Refrigerators are available only if you ask, and some floor ice machines were out of order. I could hear occasional sirens and neighbors showering, flushing, or playing music. The toiletries are food scented, like sage and peppermint, which I don't enjoy. There's just one robe, and no luggage rack, though a bench can hold a suitcase. The counter height desk and stool are awkward if you're short. The room carpet has no slippers provided, so bring your own if you prefer. Storage is oddly built in, and I wish it had normal drawers. The bigger drawbacks: rooms and showers are on the small side, and they're dark even with all the switches on. I needed my phone flashlight to see my face, and a video call would be a bad idea. There's no handheld showerhead, and the pillows are the usual floppy, unsupportive hotel kind. One hook by the shower isn't enough for a toiletry bag, towels, coat, tote, purse, and umbrella. Neither of the two waste bins had a liner, and there's no separate recycling bin. The floor to ceiling view is of concrete and parking decks.

The bed and pillows were awful, and the sheets hadn't even been put on properly before we checked in. The AC didn't work, even after staff tried to fix it, and they wouldn't move us to another room when we raised the problem. A very disappointing stay. I wouldn't recommend spending your money here.
